Will Tariffs Impact LED Lighting Industry?

LED lighting professionals across the United States are concerned about the impact President Trump’s $200 Billion China tariffs will have on the LED industry. The Office of the United States Trade Representative has released the latest list of LED products made in China that could potentially face new tariffs as a part of the current trade war between the United States and China. Right away, we can see an unintended consequence of the tariffs.

First, the tariffs penalize US based manufacturers that assemble their products in the United States, as LED components are hit with the highest tariffs, currently. This incentivizes manufacturers to build the entire lighting product in China, rather than use American labor to assemble the products.
